!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! said it was bringing in the straight-to-pan plastic pouches, which are known in the industry as “doypacks”, after a survey showed the prospect of coming into contact with uncooked meat products induced high levels of anxiety among shoppers under the age of 35.

Um, did you not cover “washing your hands” in kindergarten? I mean, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but it’s not brain surgery either.

“Customers, particularly younger ones, are quite scared of touching raw meat,” Katherine Hall, product development manager for meat, fish and poultry at the retailer, told The Sunday Times.

“These bags allow people, especially those who are time-poor, to just ‘rip and tip’ the meat straight into the frying pan without touching it.”

The fear of contamination by bacteria such as !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , which is found in some raw poultry and can cause severe food poisoning, was so great that one woman admitted in a focus group to coating her chicken with antibacterial spray before cooking it, Ms Hall recalled.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m almost positive that’s worse for you than whatever bacteria you may come into contact with, but hey, you do you.

I think I’ve found my contribution to society though. I’m going to invent a disposable cover for your hands, so you can cook raw foods without contaminating yourself.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Damn...

There’s no hope, humanity is doomed, the ship has no rudder...

I keep feeling like adults are less and less adult-like every day. I feel like an overgrown child and like my wife might be even a bit less mature. Who will do necessary chores in the households of our children? Hell, we don’t even clean our house or maintain our yards (not that we have time as a working couple), but at least we can cook food and we’re not afraid to touch raw meat.

What’s even more confusing is that we as a nation have pretty much said we’re done with plastic. So this seems really tone deaf on Sainsbury’s part.

Yeah I read today they’re considering banning plastic straws even. Strange timing.

Additionally, to help prevent America from reaching these levels of wussification. I propose from now on to be legally recongized as an adult you must subimt photographic proof of killing and field dressing a deer. This way we can achieve our goal of “Make America Greater than Britain Again”

It’s not the first time it’s been done. It was done a few years ago and to some extent it still is from time to time in some supermarkets that sell ‘family packs’ or bulk portions of fresh chicken (invariably around summer).

There are people who simply don’t like touching raw meat, most of the time it’s the feel and texture and knowing it’s flesh of a dead animal rather than bacterial issues.

Supermarkets will do what ever they need to do to get you to spend your money with them.

Not gonna lie, I’ll dump meat right out of the package into the pan if I could because I don’t feel like washing my hands after. I also butcher my own deer/fish/other game though, so it’s not like I have a fear of touching it, it’s just laziness.

I hate touching raw meat, but it’s just what has to be done, i don’t care for the packaging really, but if it’s worse for the environment because its so much plastic and it increase the amount of labor, then I’m againts it. Grow a spine, wash your hands and touch it!

Every “idiot story” in the news is being attributed to Millenials, since obviously everyone under 35 is pretty much the same. Right?

I mean, I wouldn’t pay extra for it, but if I have the ability to, I will. That antibacterial though, wow. I’m now curious about how bad that would taste, and why you’d still continue to eat it.

I went shopping for a backyard BBQ with a friend last summer. When we got to the meat counter to pick up a big tri-tip, they had a great 4 lb cut all ready to go. My buddy grabbed 2 plastic produce bags, wore them like gloves, then put the already-wrapped meat into another produce bag. Then he proceeded to double, and then triple bag it.

The whole time, I’m scooting further and further away, pretending I don’t know this crazy person. I may have said something to the effect of, “You do know the cow is already dead, right? It’s not going to bite you.”

Further down in the article, the Telegraph does mention that:

A recent report by Mintel, the consumer research firm, found just under 40pc of young cooks prefer not to handle raw meat, compared with a little more than a quarter of the broader population.

FWIW, YMMV.

They use sanitzer on the chicken?

Did no one learn anything in school?!?!?!?! Heat kills pathogens, this is why we cook meat to a certain temperature.

Good god.

Exactly.

It would be really fun to fuck with these people and show them sous vide chicken.

“Here’s chicken that’s been cooked below the recommended temperature to kill salmonella. EAT IT!”

And then don’t mention how time also plays a role in killing pathogens.
